Ro is a U.S. Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War. She served with the 101st Airborne's very last HUEY helicopter unit. She studied political science and history at Northern Arizona University; is a Christian; and student of the Bible and philosophy. She is politically independent. She was a reporter with The Charlotte Observer from 1999 to 2009. She covered the 2008 presidential primaries with her Observer blog Pol Position and appeared on C-Span for coverage of the SC Primary. During the 2010 Midterm elections, she was Director of Communications for Frank Deaton's campaign for the NC House (District 104). She is a consultant with Dwyer Solutions.
